Like most other surgeries, breast augmentation also requires some time before the final results are revealed. There are certain processes that have to go through during the period of recovery, so that you can enjoy the actual outcome. One such step after getting your breast implants in this entire process is referred to as “dropping and fluffing”.

What does Dropping and fluffing after breast augmentation mean?

Every surgery, while is not a threat to your well-being, is definitely something that your body sees as an injury that entails a certain amount of bruising, swelling, and such other responses. Similarly, breast augmentation too sees a post operation effect which is dropping and fluffing.

Although they may sound unique, drop and fluff in fact are parts of a normal recovery process after your breast augmentation surgery. It basically refers to the process by virtue of which the implants settle into place in the chest wall. Effectively, once the implants are placed in your body, the skin around the area sits very tightly high on the chest. It is only with the passage of time, that they begin to relax and slowly make room for the implants. They then are able to move a little lower down and give a more natural look.

What is Implant dropping?

This part of the drop and fluff procedure is actually the implant shifting to a slightly lower position on the chest wall. It is mostly gravity that takes care of this part making the implants slowly shift downward till they can settle into the lower section of the breast. After this happens, you can enjoy a more natural look with the perfect teardrop shape. However, until the entire process runs its course, you may find things a little lopsided because this does not happen at the same rate for both the breasts.

What is Implant fluffing?

Fluffing fundamentally refers to the process of skin expansion. Irrespective of how the implants have been placed, their primary job is to increase the volume of the breasts and this entails a certain amount of stretching in the skin. You will initially feel the tightness in your skin after the procedure but with time, the skin begins to adjust. It is then that the implants start giving a more natural look and shape. Again, it is not necessary that this will happen at the same rate and thus should not be a reason for panic if things are a little lopsided in the beginning.

Do breast implants tend to get bigger when they drop and fluff?

Once your breast implants begin to drop and go to a lower position, they may seem a little bigger and fuller. This happens when they have more or less settled into a more natural looking position on your chest wall and have assumed a more round and soft shape. You may experience an alteration in the size and shape of your breasts after the procedure once the tightness and swelling start to alleviate.

Again, before you even enjoy the final results after your breast augmentation, you may see that your new implants are constantly changing in appearance, shape, and size. This should not be a cause of concern or worry as it is perfectly normal for this to happen. You need to give your breasts implants a few months to get into the right place and for your breasts to finally stop adjusting their shape and size.

Is there a way to make your breast implants drop faster?

Although there is little that you can do to make your breast implants drop and fluff faster, you can follow certain guidelines that can help your body heal and recover faster. These include:

  • Staying away from heavy jobs and physical activity
  • Taking good care of the incision sites
  • Wearing a proper compression garment
  • Avoiding alcohol and tobacco consumption during this time
  • Making sure all follow up appointments are attended

How long does it take for the dropping and fluffing to happen after breast augmentation?

Since each individual body is unique, the time it takes for dropping and fluffing to happen for each person differs. Despite this, it has been seen in most cases that the implants settle into place within a timeline of approximately three to six months. So, it requires some amount of patience but with the assurance that the results will soon show.
